Denise Dolan, Chief Advancement Officer of Fisher House Foundation, was honored to present the Gold, Silver & Bronze medals to finalists at the women’s track competition at the 2017 Warrior Games in Chicago, Illinois.

Denise is the proud granddaughter of a World War II veteran who survived for five days – lost in the dense New Guinea jungle.  In her role, she oversees the fundraising efforts of the Foundation.

Denise joined Fisher House Foundation in 2014 and is honored to use her fundraising experience to serve military veterans and their families.

As the 4th of July weekend arrives, Shannon Collins, journalist with the DoD News updates on America’s Homecoming and the  2017 Warrior Games hosted in Chicago’s Soldier Field on July 1, 2017.

Ms. Collins  highlights, “As comedian Jon Stewart and Navy Adm. John Richardson, chief of naval operations, announced the official opening of the 2017 Department of Defense Warrior Games here yesterday, medically retired Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Sarah Rudder walked-in a hand torch at Soldier Field, where it was passed between teams, with medically retired Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Nate Hamilton lastly using it to light a flame for the games.”

The article spotlights:

Kelly Clarkson whom “opened the concert with “My Life Would Suck Without You” and told the crowd, “I’m excited and honored to be here. Thank you so much for your service. We are super honored. When I was told about Warrior Games, I was so inspired, and I’m just so excited to be a part of this and just thank you so much for having us here.”

As she readied the audience for “Piece By Piece,” she was overcome with emotion as she told the athletes, service members and veterans in the audience, “Y’all are real heroes; y’all are real heroes.”

Blake Shelton closed the show and told his fans, “Happy Independence Day weekend! I hope you’re not going to get tired of me celebrating these military people I see out here in the audience tonight and their families. Thank you so much.

The Chicago Sun-Times recently reported on June 5 that the renown host, Jon Stewart, will host the 2017 Department of Defense Warrior Games Opening Ceremony.

Bill Zwecker, journalist with the Chicago SunTimes highlighted “Jon Stewart, the former host of “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central, has been tapped as the emcee for the opening ceremony and concert for the Department of Defense Warrior Games, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 1, at Soldier Field.”

Instructions for downloading photos from Flickr:
(Must be done on a computer, not phone)

Before beginning to download, make sure you are opening the album of photos from the day of your choosing.

1. Open the album to view the gallery of images.

2. To download a specific image, click on the image to open it.

3. Once the image opens, there will be a downward arrow on the bottom right corner of your screen. The downward arrow will be underlined. Click on that to download.

4. Several size options will appear – Flickr is asking you how big of a file you’d like to download. The bigger the size, the clearer the photo. (If you want to print any of the images, select the “Original” size).

5. For social media, a medium or large size will work just fine.

6. Select the size, and click on it to begin download.

7. The photo will save to your computer.

To download the entire album of photos:

1. When viewing all the albums, (they will appear as individual thumbnails), hover your mouse over the album you’d like to download.

2. You will see an underlined downward arrow – click on that.

3. You will then be prompted to “Download zip” – a zipped file of all the photos. Click download.

4. Your computer will begin to download the entire album of photos. Please note this could take a long time due to the amount of photos, and the large file size of photos.

5. Once the download completes, double click the album to “unzip” it, and access all the photos.

Veterans prepare for Warrior Games in Chicago

ABC 7 Chicago News featured the Warrior Games 2017 highlighting the tremendous inspiration that the Games provide to our nation, our service members and their families.

“Spread that spirit that, that human spirit of never giving up, keep on fighting,” said Master Sgt. Israel “DT” Del Toro, Warrior Games Athlete.  Notably, “he survived a roadside bomb in Afghanistan 11 years ago. This summer, he’ll compete in front of his entire family for the first time. He hopes to impact everyone.”

The Warrior Games commence on July 1, 2017 with the opening ceremony at the iconic Soldier Field in downtown Chicago.  The games run June 30 through July 8 and all the sporting events will be free and open to the public.  Tickets will be available for the opening ceremony.

US Navy to Host 2017 DoD Warrior Games in Chicago


WEST POINT, N.Y. (NNS) — Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower and Reserve Affairs Franklin Parker announced June 21, that the Navy will host the 2017 DoD Warrior Games in Chicago next June.

The announcement took place during the closing ceremony of the Army-hosted 2016 DoD Warrior Games at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York. Parker was joined on stage by Vice Adm. Dixon Smith, commander, Navy Installations Command, who oversees the Navy’s wounded warrior program. To mark the announcement, Gen. Mark Milley, the Army’s chief of staff, passed the torch to Smith before competition flames in the cauldron were extinguished.

“Chicago has been home to many world-class events,” said Parker. “We are honored to work alongside Mayor Rahm Emanuel to make next year’s games truly unforgettable for our wounded warrior athletes and those who support them.”

Chicago’s mayor announced that the city was eagerly anticipating next year’s DoD Warrior Games.
